HISTORICAL Aspects, researched and written up by members of Tenbury Wells District Civic and Historical Society in 2001, is a good reason to delve into the secret history of people, places and buildings in Tenbury Wells.
From Tenbury's Scottish Soldiers at New Court, the site of what is now Greenhill Close, who fought alongside the Gurkhas in Kabul in Victorian times, to First World War German Prisoners of War, imprisoned at Rochford House, it makes a very good read for residents and visitor alike.
Other interesting features include the racecourse at Oldwood Common, local manor houses, churches and the early history of Burford.
This is the third edition of the booklet. Previously printed editions came out in 1993 and 1996.
Society chairman, local historian Howard Miller is always looking to update the publication and invites people to get in touch.
The society welcomes new members and visitors to their regular meetings. A monthly programme of speakers on a wide variety of subjects connected with history are very well attended. For people interested in houses, the building study group provides some opportunities. For more details contact 01584 811669.
Historical Aspects is available by mail order, priced at £2 from Mike Watkins, telephone 01584 711425.
