GOLDEN boy Chris Garrard was delighted with his man-of the-match display after bagging four tries on his Worcester debut.
The Australian stood out with some superb scores and had notched up a hat-trick in just 18 minutes as the Gold'n'Blues got off to a flyer.
"It was a very exciting day," he said. "I just got a couple of lucky bounces when the ball went my way!
"We came out all guns blazing and we were superb from one to 15 for the first 25 minutes. The rest of the team should take the credit though, because they made me look good."
The 23-year-old, who has already starred for the Australian 'Sevens' side, became an instant hit with Sixways supporters with a performance which had them licking their lips.
His turn of pace and ability to beat the first tackle will be a massive asset to Worcester this season and the player who came originally to provide cover has already booked his place for next week's league clash with Birmingham & Solihull.
However, 'Mr Modesty' was in no mood to start blowing his own trumpet.
"My ultimate goal when I came to the club in the summer was to get in the first 15 and then get into the Premiership. I'm just delighted to get into the side. Now it's a matter of consistently doing this week in, week out and consolidating my position -- to give the coach no choice but to pick me!
"The second try gave me the most pleasure because I had to do a bit more work and beat a few players. The other two were just falling over the line while the fourth was just lucky!"
"I'm just waiting for the cold weather, the field to become slushy -- that will sort the men from the boys."
Garrard now faces former Sixways golden boy Nick Baxter who travels to Worcester with Birmingham & Solihull on Saturday, hoping to show the Sixways hierarchy they were wrong to let him go in the summer.
"It should be very good. Nick Baxter will be back -- maybe I'll go one-on-one with him!"
