I FELT compelled to express my regret regarding the situation which appears to be happening in respect to the effective cutting off of the village of Wyre Piddle.
I have not lived in the village since getting married 31 years ago but I was born there and lived there for 21 years.
Progress is all very well but must it be at the expense of the character of the village?
There is no longer a village shop or post office. I used to work in the village shop and bakery and I can remember customers calling into the bakery from as far afield as Birmingham.
A focal point of the village is the Anchor Inn; visitors could always call in and enjoy a quiet drink and a meal and long may they do so. At what cost now with the likely situation of cutting off the village? It seems to me that the voices of newer residents has won the fight to isolate the village. A bypass is fine but please don't kill the village character as well.
MRS ROWE, Elbury Park, Worcester. A sad former resident.
