I FEFER to Geoff Kimberley's letter about the attack on his dog by a rottweiler (Shuttle/Times & News, May 22) and the seeming lack of response by the police.

My dog was attacked last month, while on the lead, by a german shepherd, and I too rang the police who, in the first instance, said it was a civil matter.

However, after ringing a charity I belong to, called Justice for Dogs, I was told to ring the police again and to tell them this was a criminal offence under Section 3 of the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991.

The police did then contact the dog owner, although it was more than a week later.

I have nothing but praise for the german shepherd's owner. She paid all vet bills and also the offending dog was destroyed, which was just as upsetting for her as the attack on my dog was for me.

May I suggest that Mr Kimberley joins the charity (£6 per year membership) Justice for Dogs, Finloren Cottage, Weythel, Old Radnor, Powys L8 2RR and they will give him any help he might need.

I would also like to point out that any dog on the dangerous dogs list should be muzzled in public areas.

So, hopefully, the rottweiler's owner will read this.
