IT says much about this Worcester side's development that we handed Bracknell their heaviest home defeat of the season on Saturday.
We've studied the performance and although it wasn't the best of the season, we've still managed to score 59 points on a heavy pitch away from home.
Credit must go to the players and the coaches because we seem to have so many threats now going forward. It is simply a joy to be involved.
Our backs are on fire at the moment and you have to look at what Andy Keast has done since his arrival at the club. Players such as Chris Garrard, Ben Hinshelwood, Chris Yates and Duncan Roke carry such a threat that I certainly wouldn't like to defend against them. The improvement can also be put down to the fact we have a settled unit which, I think, is absolutely vital in team sports.
Duncan is a prime example of the development within our side. People tend to forget that this is his first season as a professional player and the transition is not always easy. The physical demands are tough but he has adapted to them and is now reaping the rewards.
He began the season at centre with Chris Yates but has now made the full back role his own with a series of excellent performances.
He would be the first to admit that his kicking game needs a tweak here and there but there are few quicker athletes at the club with the ability to beat men. He is the ideal player at full back if you want to play with Andy Keast's vision of how rugby should be played. We have some very good players at Worcester who are great in that role. Tony Yapp and Sateki Tuipulotu are just two, so to dislodge such players is a notable achievement.
He was on-song at Bracknell. His three tries were the product of individual excellence but also great team play. Duncan and Ben Hinshelwood, in particular, have hit up a great relationship and they really compliment each other. Duncan's third try typified that with a great break by Ben, finished off by the devastating pace of the number 15.
Ben is obviously out of contract in the summer but I hope he stays because our side is now taking shape. I only wish the season was starting now because, at present, we are the best team in the division. There is no doubt about that.
We were obviously disappointed at conceding four tries at Lily Hill Park though. We pride ourselves that we are a solid outfit but we thought they were soft ones to concede. One problem which comes with such an attack-minded team is that your tackle count tends to be quite low. That is a natural symptom of having the ball so much but if you go for long periods without tackling, your concentration can suffer.
I've never played so much rugby where you have to make four, five tackles per game. My tackle count has always been 12-16. The team made just 50 tackles against Wakefield. That speaks volumes for the amount of ball we are stealing from them, through either the set piece or forced handling errors. What it means, however, is that we must be absolutely switched on when we don't have the ball and not allow silly tries.
We don't have a game this weekend so it gives us all a chance to take in the England v Wales match. Talking of full-backs, I think my boys might just test out that new number 15!
Whatever happens, I'm sure there will be some good banter when I get back to Sixways on Monday morning.
