WE travel to London Welsh on Saturday in good spirits, back on top of the table with a victory over Rotherham under our belts.

The game at Sixways was great to be part of and I am just glad we came out with the 20-18 victory in the end.

The crowd made it a superb atmosphere to play in and it was a real taste of things to come at the club, providing we can maintain our levels of consistency and focus.

Saturday's trip to Old Deer Park is all about that. It would be easy for an inexperienced side to go to London Welsh thinking now we've beaten Rotherham, we've done the hard work. Wrong!

There is always a danger in the back of players' minds that complacency sets in. We cannot allow that to happen because it would be a travesty if we throw all the hard work against Rotherham away. I've gone on many unbeaten runs in my time in the game. When you get to five, that is always the danger game. You might slip up and draw or lose having taken it easy.

In many ways, the game at London Welsh will be harder than the one we've just won because we are away from home against what is a very good team. They've only lost once this season and that was to Rotherham in a match which was tight at one stage.

Looking at our Rotherham game on video this week, it's been clear how many basic mistakes we made in the match. There are so many areas we can improve on and we are desperate to eradicate some of the errors. Supporters will say we are nit picking but the try in the first half was a poor one to concede and we need to look at how to improve. It has to be said that the team have only been together now for 11 weeks and there are bound to still be some teething problems. Rotherham would have probably hoped to expose those problems more than they did considering we are just four weeks into the season. People tend to forget but their whole pack played together last season in the Premiership so to come out of the game with a win is a very positive sign for us.

The other great thing to come out of the match was the character the team showed. You can have all the skill and talent in the world but you need character to succeed in any sport. The boys showed bags of character towards the end of the match when Rotherham were really coming at us. They had some real impact players who tested us.

However, we stood up to the test and the players were willing to put their bodies on the line to get that win. Everyone gave 110 per cent and nobody can be criticised after that performance. Among some of the outstanding displays, I think Martin Morgan and Dan Zaltzman were up there with the best. They have been excellent for us this season and have proved a very reliable pairing at second row. Ben Hinshelwood had another impressive display while Richard Smith's commitment to the cause was fantastic. He's probably the smallest guy on the pitch but never shirked a challenge.

We will need that spirit again for our second away match of the season. In our last one we slipped up having failed to win the bonus point. We will be going all out to make sure it doesn't happen again.
