Favoured by glorious weather the crowds at Evesham on Whit-Monday were probably larger than ever before. It is estimated that the twelve excursion trains arriving on the two railways serving Evesham brought to the town between seven and eight thousand passengers, while the augmented 'bus services, numerous charabanc and many private vehicles helped to considerably swell the number. It is estimated that some six thousand visitors saw the regatta and the sight on the riverside was indeed a gay one.

The weather immediately preceding Evesham Asparagus Show seldom assists the production of first-class exhibits. During the last few years its has in turn been in turn too cold, too dry and too hot. This year the heat wave that began last week-end made the "grass" grow much too quickly and growers found it difficult to produce bundles of show quality. Mr D.G.S. Russell, chairman of the executive of the British Hotels and Restaurants Association, said that asparagus was a delicacy whose use should be encouraged in every possible way. He suggested that at luncheons it might be served as a separate course instead of as a second vegetable.

An action group, which has been fighting to use a piece of land in Bewdley Street, Evesham, as a permanent children's adventure playground, may have to give up because of a lack of interest among parents. The Evesham Adventure Playground Action Group ran a successful supervised playground on the land for a four-week experimental period last year and thought of extending the use this year. Parents in the Bewdley Street area, about 120 in all, were invited to discuss plans for the forthcoming season at an open meeting at the Red Cross Centre in Briar Close last week. But no-one turned up.
