TWO prison officers are exhausted but elated after breaking the world record for pushing a car.

Jezz Mole and Brian Davies pushed a Rover MG 40.79 miles around Long Lartin housing estate, in South Littleton, near Evesham, to smash the world record of 33.7 miles.

It took Mr Mole and Mr Davies, who work at Long Lartin Prison, near Evesham, almost 16 hours of back-breaking effort to push the 928kg car 50 times around the estate.

But Mr Davies, who is from South Littleton, said it had been worth it, to smash the record and make "as much money as possible" for the Wish Upon A Star charity.

He decided to make the attempt after the death last year of his eight-year-old niece, Aleysha, who had cancer.

"We're aching a bit," said Mr Davies, aged 40.

"But it went fine. We broke the record after 13 hours - at 8.45pm - and we stopped three hours later. We thought we'd put a few miles on the record and we managed an extra seven. We decided to pack it in at 16 hours."

"I'd like to thank all our support team who have been brilliant and the guys at work who steered the car for us."

Mr Davies and Mr Mole, 38, from Redditch, started at 8.15am on Tuesday and finished just after midnight, at 12.05am Wednesday morning.

The pair plan to do something else for a children's charity at some point, but not another car push, which they thought of after looking in the Guinness Book of World Records.

"We won't do this particular thing - my feet are covered in blisters and I'm aching all over - but I'll try something else for charity again," said Mr Davies.

"Any charity that benefits young children."
