A TWO-car crash caused traffic chaos on the M5 last night, as motorway police spent more than two hours clearing the road.
The middle and outside lane of the northbound carriageway, near Junction 8, were closed from just after 8.30pm until 10.45pm, after a Peugeot car and a people carrier were in collision.
Police from Worcestershire and Gloucestershire joined forces to sweep the motorway, as a large quantity of screws, which had been scattered in the accident, had to be removed.
The incident, near Strensham services, caused tailbacks of several miles and lengthy delays for commuters, though surrounding roads remained clear.
One person with minor injuries was taken by ambulance to Worcestershire Royal Hospital. He was later arrested at the hospital on suspicion of drink-driving.
He has remained in police custody this morning, helping officers with the investigation into the incident.
