DOG groomers in Worcestershire will be the first in the country with a regional governing body to monitor changes in animal welfare legislation.
The British Dog Groomers' Association is backing the move, which will see monthly meetings held to discuss changes in the law, improve animal care skills and even organise competitions.
The support group will also allow both full and part-time groomers the chance to have queries answered regarding their licences and qualifications.
"It has never been done before," said organiser Rebecca Phillips, a member of the Pet Care Trust. "Dog grooming has always been an individual profession and this is the first time a group has been set up to discuss topical issues, such as law changes."
The group, which is aimed primarily at people in Worcester, Kidderminster, Bromsgrove and Malvern, is planning to meet at All Saints Church hall, in Bury Lane, Bromsgrove.
There are 24 advertising dog groomers in the area, but Mrs Phillips is also keen to contact smaller, part-time salons that may only be known by word of mouth.
Anyone interested in attending the meetings, or wishing more information, should contact Rebecca Phillips on 01905 425069.
