CREATIVITY is alive and well at St Joseph's RC Primary School, as five days of artistic and cultural activities has just shown.

The week kicked off with circus skills under the guidance of Mark the Juggler, from Splats. There was laughter mixed with concentration as youngsters learned to juggle, balance and spin plates.

On Tuesday, John Frith and Alyson Craigan, from the Worcestershire Youth Music Service, brought the school to life with music and movement.

The following day, the school was lavishly entertained and challenged by the One Golden Butterfly theatre company, with its storytellers and puppets.

On Thursday it was the turn of The History People with stories, myths and legends from the past.

On Friday, visitors from the school's own community shared books and stories with groups of children.

Throughout the week, the youngsters took part in arts and crafts activities with the school's arts co-ordinator Frances Sharps, assisted by parents and older pupils.

The school's performing arts club put on two shows of Jack and the Beanstalk as a finale.

Head Ann Marie Wallbank said: "We often hear people complaining that creativity and fun have been squeezed out of primary education, this week demonstrates they are at the forefront of out thinking in this school.

"We believe that the children develop confidence and self-esteem through this imaginative approach and this can only have a positive effect on learning."
