THANK you for your well-written article on regional assemblies (Malvern Gazette & Ledbury Reporter, May 16). I was impressed by your fair representation of the fors and againsts.

My main objection to the proposed regional assembly is simply the fact that this has been planned since 1972 as part of the master plan for a United States of Europe, but this is the first time many people will even have heard of it. So how long will Joe Bloggs get to look at the facts, weigh up his preferences and talk it over with his wife and work mates in order to place a well-informed vote?

Yes, there is a lot of disillusionment with local government, national government and too much bureaucracy, but these plans will only help the EC to overrule all levels of government in Britain. Furthermore, much of the stifling bureaucracy, suffered first by agriculture in the early 70's, right through to all businesses today suffering an overwhelming amount of ever-increasing new legislation that needs its own administrative department to cope with, is actually the major cause of councillors' and MPs' struggles to cope. We are all on our knees with too much work, and more bureaucracy is breaking the camel's back.

Anyone who wants to know more of these facts is welcome to contact me directly at any time to discover more. I won't force anyone to listen if they don't want to, I just want people to have access to the facts so that they at least have the chance to make up their own minds.
