NEARLY 40 parents and players representing the U12 Colts and U13 Juniors from Newtown Sports Junior Football Club travelled to Devon to take part in a nationwide Football Tournament over the Bank Holiday weekend.
The teams stayed in Brixham and played their matches in Newtown Abbot. Over the weekend both teams played numerous 11-a-side matches against teams from all over the country.
Both teams enjoyed mixed fortunes; winning several, losing several and drawing several of their games. So whilst neither side contested in any finals, each player was presented with a trophy by Trevor Brooking at the Sunday evening presentation gala.
In addition, many of the players had the added bonus of meeting Paul 'Gazza' Gascoigne whose son was playing for one of the teams in the tournament. Many of the boys got to shake his hand a receive an autograph even though Gazza was trying to remain low key.
The weekend was deemed a success with all the players and parents enjoying the team building and camaraderie.
