THERE is only one way to "bring new vitality to our jaded political system", and that is for councillors and MPs to represent (not ignore) the people who vote for them, and with a few honourable exceptions this is a rarity.

For instance, many people were happy to join (and later voted to stay in) a 'Common Market'. Little did they know that some of the MPs were members of the Bilderberg Group, intent on destroying national sovereignty in favour of forming a super state in which British individuals will have been denied any influence - they will have one voice in about 500,000,000 instead of one voice in 50 million - a small cog in a much larger wheel.

Politics is riddled with lies and deception. We need a different breed of politician, people devoted to honestly representing those who vote for them and with the guts to ignore powerful influences that presently drive government. It is essential to motivate the public to get dynamic activity at the parish level where decisions must be made to pass on to the higher levels of government where appropriate.

At present, it is going in the other direction, with the plans to abolish district and county councils in favour of regional assemblies - remote and unrepresentative, and governed from Brussels, not Westminster.
