I WOULD like to correct the impression given in the Malvern Gazette & Ledbury Reporter (May 16) that Canon Frome Cricket Club is in danger of collapse.
Like most small sporting associations it could always do with more resources and better facilities; and in this respect is no better or no worse that most local sporting clubs. It is true the clubhouse roof was damaged and there were problems with the boiler but these have all been repaired within the existing financial resources of the club. Indeed the club does have sufficient resources to cover other unforeseen problems and there is no danger whatsoever of it "being thrown out of the Marches League".
The club has comfortably enough players to run two Saturday senior teams and a Sunday side. It operates very successful under 13s and under 15s, and provides a greater proportion of players for junior county sides than any other comparable club. It has played on its current ground for over 50 years and enjoys a cordial relationship with its landlord and I am sure we will continue to play on the ground for many years to come.
Therefore reports of its imminent demise are "greatly exaggerated".
ALLEN MAWBY, chairman, Canon Frome Cricket Club, Aylton.
