Warwickshire County Council has become the latest local authority to reject GM foods.

At a meeting last week, members expressed concern about the safety of GM crops and voted to keep them out of the food it serves up.

Warwickshire County Council banned GM crop-growing on its land in 2000.

The council has joined a group of authorities rejecting genetically modified produce, including Devon County Council, Cornwall County Council and South Gloucestershire Council.

Meanwhile, the first in a series of regional conferences on GM foods will be held at the NEC in Birmingham next week.

Findings from GM Nation? The Public Debate, will help to structure future Government policy-making on genetic modification.

The conference takes place on Wednesday (June 3), at 3pm. For more information, ring 020 7261 8616.
