A JOINT promotion between Worcester Triathlon Club and Worcester College of Technology has resulted in the first Worcester Schools Aquathlon taking place.
The race consisting of a swim and a run was held in the grounds of the RNIB New College with varying distances for the three age groups.
Race Committee chairman Peter Jansen commended the Higher Sports Leader Award students for their efforts saying: "The Triathlon Club have been looking for a way to develop our sport in Worcester for some time and this scheme certainly introduces multi-sport events to a new audience."
Worcester City Council Sports Development Officer Clare Nicholls thanked num-erous local businesses for their support saying: "We fully endorse this venue as it fulfils one of the main targets of our department to increase the participation of children in sport."
The youngest age group years 7 and 8 was won by Matthew Everest of Nunnery wood in 5 mins 14 secs and Rebecca Vickers of Nunnery Wood in 8 mins 39 secs
The intermediate winners years 9 and 10 were Richard Everest of Nunnery Wood 8 mins 40 secs and Alison Etheridge of Christopher Whitehead, 7 mins 43 secs.
The senior age group year 11 was won by Phillipa Jordan of Blessed Edward Oldcorne, 15 mins 53 secs.
HSLA Course Director at the Worcester College of Technology Arran Stevens thanked the competitors and hoped that the event could expand in the future with more local schools taking part.
