STEPPING back from the pressures of major championships, Prescott speed hill climb looks back to the long history of motor sport over this weekend with two one day meetings, each promising plenty of action.

Tomorrow (Saturday) features Bugatti Owners' Club members driving a wide variety of cars plus invited clubs fielding traditional British sports models.

These include Morgans (both the popular spots cars and the charismatic pre-war three wheelers), Triumphs, Reliant Scimitars and Ginettas. A big entry of Lotus cars completes the line up, with various models from road going saloons to a Formula 5000 single seater.

On Sunday (June 1) the meeting starts with a pre-war handicap, followed by classes for sports and racing cars, all of them built before 1972, plus a well supported section for Austin-Healey sports cars.

Bugattis run on Sunday only, with the traditional Bugatti handicap, the Bugatti cavalcade on the hill during the lunch hour and a chance to visit the newly-extended Bugatti Trust study centre.

Motor cycles first competed at Prescott more than 50 years ago and there is a fine entry of some 45 solos and three-wheelers which will compete on Sunday only.

Bugatti Owners' Club competitions secretary Allan Cameron sums up the Prescott weekend: "We tried this last year, running two separate events on the Saturday and Sunday, and it proved very popular with both drivers and spectators.

"Practice is from 9.30am on Saturday and 10am on Sunday with the competitive runs starting at 2pm on each day. I am very pleased that we have so many interesting cards and motor cycles taking part and we hope to recapture the atmosphere of competition from Prescott's classic decades."

Prescott is five miles north east of Cheltenham off the main Evesham road near the village of Gotherington. Adult admission is £7 on Saturday and £12 on Sunday, children under 14 are admitted free and car parking is free.
