COLWALL were ultimately disappointed to lose a match to league leaders and title favourites Dumbleton that they could easily have won.
COLWALL v DUMBLETON
Dumbleton won the toss and decided to bat first. A fine bowling performance from the home side dismissed the strong Dumbleton line up for 157 all out in the 49th over. Only Holland (25) and Boorman (32) managed to score over 20.
Damian Berry, on his first game of the season, bowled extremely well taking 4-42 including three out of the top four of the Dumbleton line up. Majiid (2-44) and David Sutton (2-42) also impressed as did Andy Sutton, who removed the dangerous Stanton.
Rain in between the innings left Colwall chasing a reduced target of 121 in 38 overs. At this point the team must have strongly fancied their chances of reaching the target. However they had a rude awakening as Green bowled a hostile opening spell. He removed Majiid, Powell and Williams in quick succession, with the latter receiving a particularly nasty rising delivery.
With skipper Tom Wolfendale trapped at the other end to Englebecht, Colwall were left tottering at 20-4.
However, a determined fifth wicket partnership between Tim Riley and Barney Bamford started to turn the match back in Colwall's favour. The pair had added 52 before Riley was prised out for 17 by the left arm spin of Robinson.
Lee Hankins then joined Bamford at the wicket and the pair continued to push Colwall within sight of victory. The score had reached 92-5 with ten overs left and only 29 needed when Green was reintroduced into the attack. He quickly produced a rising delivery that Bamford was unable to control to dismiss him for a fine 38.
This signalled a dramatic collapse. Green trapped Mark Sutton, whilst Andy Sutton had an unplayable delivery from Robinson. With Damian Berry being run out, Colwall had lost five wickets for only one run.
Green finished with 5-32 whilst Robinson took 4-15 in an extremely accurate spell of ten overs.
