WORCESTERSHIRE duo Vikram Solanki and Kabir Ali are today celebrating their call-up into England's one-day squad for the three-match series against Pakistan followed by the triangular tournament involving South Africa and Zimbabwe.

For Solanki it is a return to international duty after playing the last of his eight one-day internationals three years ago.

He said: "It is great to be back in the one-day squad. I have had a decent start to the season and I've had a decent run in one-day cricket over the last couple of seasons.

"The 2002 season was my best so far in the limited overs game and the year before was my previous best so I have been improving.

"When I first played for England I did not make the best my opportunities, but I have now matured a bit.

"There is also the fact that I have played quite a little bit more cricket and have got more experience under my belt."

"I would love to play Test cricket but for the time being I initially want to make some sort of impression in the one-day game."

Kabir has also forced his way into the squad after being part of the Academy in Australia last winter and also playing in a warm-up game for the VB Series Down Under.

New Road director of cricket Tom Moody said: "He deserves his chance. He has been on the fringe of things since being with the Academy and it is well deserved.

"Kabir has had a couple of bad injuries but he has produced a string of consistent displays and his call-up is well deserved."
