A CIRCUS is offering would-be stars the chance to break into showbiz.

The only catch is that they would have to be an adult under 4ft tall.

Peter Jolly Circus, based in Shropshire but currently parked up in Droitwich, is scouring the county for a pint-sized performer to take the wheel of a fire engine for part of the clown routine.

"They have to be under 4ft because the fire engine is really small," said Emma Appleby, part of the circus team.

"It is a permanent job," she said.

"They don't need any experience and we will fully train them.

"As long as they've got a good personality and they are good with the public."

The successful applicant would join the circus for its seasonal tour around the UK which in on the road until winter.

The circus was made up of a community of about a dozen people, some of whom perform, but they all played a role in running the show, said Miss Appleby who is also a fire-eater.

Up until the end of last season the tiny electric fire engine had been operated by a performer called Sparky who has since left the circus

Now the team is finding it a tall order to replace him.

The circus features both human and animal performers.

"We've got horses and 'educated' ponies," said Miss Appleby, aged 23.

"We've got clowns, wire-walkers, aerial acts, fire-eaters and all sorts."

The Peter Jolly Circus is parked up at Droitwich Rugby Football Club off the Hanbury Road and will move to Monksfield Farm car boot site off the A449 between Powick and Malvern between Monday and Sunday, June 2 and June 8.
