HARSHAD Patel hit a fine century as Herefordshire ended in control on the opening day of their Minor Counties Championship Western Division clash with Shropshire at Luctonians.
Patel's 128 included 19 fours and was his eighth championship century for the county -- four of them having been made against Shropshire.
He shared stands of 95 for the first wicket with Rob Hughes (50) and 150 for the second with Karl Pearson (49).
Skipper Chris Boroughs also chipped in with 24 as Herefordshire declared on 320-7 in their first innings in 90 overs just missing out on an extra batting point, off-spinner Tim Mason taking 6-66.
Shropshire closed on 23 without loss in reply.
Herefordshire gave paceman Paul Thomas a late call-up after Nathan Round had to drop out through an injury sustained playing in the Birmingham League.
