I WAS browsing through the Evening News on my website down here in Australia, when I came across the Dr Who story.
I recall seeing the very first episode, with William Hartnell as the Doctor, and watched most of the rest of the programme, until I sailed to Australia in February, 1963.
I continued to follow the doctor over many years, and introduced my four children to the series.
I also met John Pertwee on a couple of occasions when he visited Australia, and that still earns me points when I engage in "my brush with fame" party games with family or friends.
Although I have made some 35 trips back to Worcester over the years, I had no idea that it all began in my home county. So now I can confidently bore even more people with trivia, which, as a grandfather of eight, I feel that I am entitled to do.
I do enjoy reading the news and look forward to my next visit to Worcester later this year.
