BROMSGROVE'S big carnival parade will be seen by thousands of people as it wends its way through the streets on its way to the gala in Sanders Park later this month.
Until a few years ago the parade used to be headed by a carnival queen but recently this honour has gone to prominent members of the community. They generally have been people who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to organise the carnival or promote the Friends of the Princess of Wales Community Hospital.
This hard-working group spends cash raised at the carnival on helping patients - often in the form of equipment to make their stay in hospital more comfortable.
But this year the organisers are casting their net wider to find a deserving person to star in the limelight and are asking Advertiser/Messenger readers for their help.
Carnival committee chairman Jeff Evans explained: "We are asking people to nominate someone they think would enjoy being the centre of attention for a short while.
"It could be to mark a birthday or anniversary or other special occasion, or as a way of saying thank you to them for doing a good deed to others or the community."
People can also nominate themselves.
Jeff said the offer is open to anyone, of any age, living in the area covered by Bromsgrove District Council. Children will have to be accompanied by an adult. The leading car can accommodate four or five people.
The carnival is due to take place on Saturday, June 28. The carnival committee will make the final decision.
If you want to nominate a person or be considered to take part yourself simply fill in the form, clip it out and send it to Jeff Evans at 22 Moorsom Way, Aston Fields, Bromsgrove, B60 3SH, to reach him by June 21.
