THE owner of a bald, foul-beaked parrot stolen from outside an Evesham pub has issued a plea for help in finding her unusual feathered friend.

Carolyn Booth, landlady of the Angel Vaults in Port Street, is prepared to offer a reward for the safe return of 13-year-old Alki, an African Grey parrot well-known locally for her "pub speak".

Alki was in her cage just outside the pub at 11.30pm on Friday, when she was taken.

But despite scores of people flocking out of the venue after closing time, nobody seems to have witnessed the crime.

"I'm sure that there's someone out there who knows where Alki is, or was around when she was stolen," said Carolyn.

"In fact, I'm completely baffled by the fact that nobody has come forward with any information - it was just after closing time and the pub was packed.

"People may not think a bird being stolen is important, but I think the world of her.

"Alki is such a character and is extremely popular with our regulars, particularly because of her pub speak.

"I can't repeat most things, but she does say hello to everyone who comes in, wolf-whistles at all the ladies, and mimics everyone's mobile phones.

"The rest is a list of choice phrases she has picked up in the pub in the eight years I have had her."

Alki is also instantly recognisable because she is bald. Carolyn bought her after she was rescued from a garage where she had been kept locked up day after day and says the bird plucks her feathers as a result of being distressed during that time.

"I am desperate for information and am willing to offer a reward - I'm not saying how much - if it means getting her back," Carolyn added.

Anyone who has any information on Alki should call the police on 08457 444888 quoting incident number 22S/310503.
