IF you have a favourite new building or renovation in Worcester the city council wants to hear from you.

It is seeking nominations for the 23rd annual City Award scheme.

The competition aims to give official recognition to projects judged to have enhanced the environmental quality of the city.

Nominations can come from any quarter, including owners, developers, architects, builders or members of the public.

"Essentially we are looking for projects that have gone just that little bit further beyond what might be considered "the call of duty" in terms of design and environmental quality," said the council's principal conservation officer, Will Scott.

"It doesn't necessarily need to be a full-scale new-build or renovation project - it could simply be a sympathetic paint scheme or a new shop front, or detailing such as landscaping, paving or wrought iron gates," he added.

Past winners have included the space-age former Worcester Engineering factory, in Navigation Road, Reindeer Court shopping mall and the Museum of Worcester Porcelain.

Two nominations have already been received, for Tybridge House veterinary surgery, in Tybridge Street, and for a new apartment block in Fish Street, next to the Farrier's Arms pub.

The only schemes not eligible for nomination are those developed by the city council itself.

A panel of seven judges, including Worcester Mayor, Councillor Gareth Jones, will be putting at least 10 nominations forward for consideration for the major award.

Nominations should be made to Mr Scott at the council's development services department, based in Orchard House, in Farrier Street, Worcester, over the next few weeks.
