WARMER weather has been blamed for an increase in crime in Warndon last month.
April's statistics for the area showed six reports of burglary and 12 cases of theft from vehicles, which rose to 16 and 20 respectively last month.
PC John McManus, speaking to Warndon Parish Council last night, said such incidents were bound to increase at this time of year.
"When the weather gets better, people see expensive lawnmowers in sheds and garages, and people also leave doors open," he said.
"A few days later, people come back and pinch them and they are very easy to sell out of a car boot.
"We want to send a message to the people of Warndon to lock garages, sheds and cars as much as possible."
Criminal damage was also up during the same period, from nine incidents to 20.
However, road accidents fell from five to three last month, and there were no reported incidents of illegal drug use, neighbour disputes or robbery.
