RESIDENTS in Mount Pleasant will be blocked from selling off part of their gardens to build individual houses if a counter development plan by Redditch Council gets the go ahead tonight.

In March, residents were asked if they would sell the bottom part of their gardens to the council.

If every household agreed then more than 19 homes were set to be built on two acres of land at the rear of their homes, known as Tilehouse.

But according to a report, due to be debated at a council executive committee meeting tonight, none of the residents agreed to sell.

However, Councillor David Cartwright said officers had still recommended the development plan be agreed despite residents opposing the sale of their gardens.

Mr Cartwright said people's finances would need to be protected and the fact the decision was more tactical than a proper development proposal was a bit unfair.
