A RARE appearance by great American pianist Emanuel Ax is the highlight of the English Symphony Orchestra's final Spring Series Concert tomorrow.
The Gala Concert, which takes place at Malvern's Forum Theatre from 7.30pm and is conducted by William Broughton, includes Beethoven's Symphony No 7 before Emanuel performs Brahms' Second Piano Concerto.
Emanuel Ax was born in Poland and began to study the piano at the age of six.
He moved to the USA with his family in the 1960s and continued to study at the Juilliard School under Mieczylaw Munz.
He first captured public attention in 1874 when, aged 25, he won the first Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Competition and five years later he took the coveted Avery Fisher Prize in New York.
A recording contract followed and many of his recordings won top honours.
His duo recordings with cellist Yo-Yo Ma have earned three Grammy Awards.
A pre-concert talk on Brahms' Piano Concerto No 2 takes place at 6.45pm.
Tickets cost £16-26 on 01684 892277.
