DEAR EDITOR -- With reference to a recent correspondent - 'Frustrated of Bromsgrove', I would like to respond that it should not take "a week or more" to get a doctor's
appointment.
The NHS Plan published in June 2000, sets out targets for the length of time it should take people to see their family doctor. By December 2004 we are expected to ensure that all patients in Redditch and Bromsgrove are able to see a GP within two working days and a nurse within 24 hours.
We are already well on the way to meeting this. In April and May this year, all patients in Bromsgrove were able to see a doctor within two working days - in fact the majority could see their doctor within one working day.
Speedy access to primary care is something we know is important to patients in Bromsgrove and we will continue to support local practices in meeting the Government's standards.
