ALVECHURCH batsman Jimmy Clifford set a Worcestershire League record when he smashed an incredible 181 off 26 overs at the weekend.
Coming in late, Clifford made short work of the previous best of around 150 and impressed teammate Nick Jones.
Clifford helped his side to an impressive 332-6 before the visitors were bowled out for 225.
The result saw the Birmingham Road side gain ground on the two promotion places with second placed Brockhampton held to a winning draw at home to Feckenham.
Third placed Alvechurch and Hopwood sit third, just two points outside the top two and can gatecrash the promotion picture with a good result at relegation-threatened Oldswinford on Saturday (2pm start).
