A BROMSGROVE man, who raised more than £20,000 for a town museum, had the unusual experience of seeing his own head immortalised in wood.
The handcrafted representation of Roy Hawkesworth, a volunteer at the Avoncroft Museum of Historic Buildings, will be the final roof corbel to adorn the New Guesten Hall. Roy raised cash for the Stoke Heath museum through the manufacture and sale of souvenir miniature clay bricks, as well as organising fundraising events.
A further two carvings, to complete the set of 18 in total, were also unveiled at the presentation ceremony.
They feature former museum chairman Roy Woodward, who dug the first sod of turf for the medieval building back in 1986, and current chairman Peter Rex.
All three subjects were present to witness the carvings, by artist Guy Reid, being raised into position within the hall. The final three corbels have been funded by generous grants from the Len Giles Trust and the Edward Cadbury Trust.
The carvings depict some of those individuals who have made a major contribution to the museum and to the New Guesten Hall project, in particular.
