A NEW strategy to tackle traveller invasions in Droitwich Spa has been called for by MP Peter Luff.
Numerous angry residents contacted him when a band of 30 Irish itinerant families set up camp on a paddock off the Bromsgrove Road, earlier this month.
They stayed for two weeks and had previously settled on car parks at Hampton Lovett.
The Tory MP now wants tougher action to be used if the problem arises again.
In a letter to West Mercia police, Wychavon district and Worcestershire county councils, he says illegal traveller activity had been under good control but has increased alarmingly in the Droitwich area. "This is not a matter that can be allowed to drift," Mr Luff scribed.
Intolerable
"Law abiding citizens, council taxpayers and business ratepayers are finding their lives disrupted to an intolerable extent and far too frequently.
"I appreciate the constraints under which we all labour in dealing with this matter but a robust response is now required from all the relevant agencies to protect the interests of my constituents."
