THE publess village of Rowney Green tried to make up for lost time on Saturday when the Peace Memorial Hall was turned into a pub for one night only.
The hall, which has stood on the site of a 1920 secondhand army hut since 1960, became the Haytier's Arms, named after the village's only pub which closed down years ago and is now a private house.
The evening was billed as an evening of 'Black Country comedy, singing and fayre' and was held to raise funds to replace the heating system and to repair and maintain the building.
There was comedy from Tommy Mundon and Harry Harrison, songs from Maggie O'Hara and a bangers and mash supper.
There was also a raffle and a silent auction with impressive prizes and lots, including a DVD player, tea at Chateau Impney, a stay in a holiday cottage and garden design advice from a Chelsea Flower Show medal winner.
All donations came from local businesses and villagers, Wythall Young Farmers looked after the bar and further sponsorship came from Advantage West Midlands.
Hall committee member Jenny Davis said everyone was delighted with the evening.
The next major event is the annual rose show on July 12 and there might also be a fund-raising coffee morning.
