THE countdown to Bewdley Carnival kicks off on Sunday with a string of events set to whet the appetite of Wyre Forest revellers.
Residents are being invited to an open day at Bewdley Fire Station and two quiz nights as part of the celebrations, which culminate with an ever-popular fireworks display on the eve of the big day.
Carnival secretary Angie Pitt said the events would be "the perfect taster for what promises to be a superb carnival" on June 14.
The emergency services will be out in force at Bewdley Fire Station, Dog Lane on Sunday where representatives from the ambulance service, the police and fire will be on hand to chat about life on the other end of a 999 call.
A pair of antique fire appliances will be on show at the event, from 11am-4pm, when keen golfers have the chance to win an hour's tuition at Bewdley Pines Golf Club in a special draw.
Other prizes include Sunday lunch at the Ramada Hotel in Bewdley and a family ticket for the Severn Valley Railway.
Folk of all ages can also pit their wits against each other at two quiz nights at the Bewdley Institute on Load Street during the week.
Monday's quiz is just for youngsters while Wednesday night has been set aside for adults. Both nights start at 7.30pm.
The pre-carnival celebrations come to a head on Friday night when fireworks light up the night sky over the River Severn.
The best views will be from Bewdley Bridge and Severnside North according to organisers of the display which will illuminate the town at 10.15pm.
Then it will be all systems go for the big day when the traditional carnival parade makes its way through the streets.
Mrs Pitt said: "It's still not too late to think about putting a float in the parade, including classic and vintage cars.
"Stalls are still available on the carnival field and we are also holding a table-top sale."
