MAYPOLE dancing and the Offenham One Mile Challenge are just some of the events to mark the beginning of the village's Wake celebrations this Saturday.
The event, which has been celebrated since the 1800s, is marked by a series of events running over the next week. Other attractions on Saturday, June 7 include sports races, an art competition and a family disco.
Wake Committee chairman Peter Shilton said: "It is an event that is very much a community event. The whole village takes part."
This year's Wake Queen is Amelia Roden, who will take part in the procession through the village on Saturday, June 14. She will be attended by Hannah Jones, Chloe Causier, Charlotte Tricault and Alice Clements.
Organisers will also host a family treasure hunt, a duck race and a rounders tournament during the week. For further details about the Wake, or to offer your help, call Peter Shilton on 01386 41672.
