LOCAL HISTORY SOCIETY: The most recent meeting of the Local History Society saw a return visit from Mr Ken Hughes. On this occasion his talk focused on the Cadburys and Bournville outlining the long association between the Cadbury family and the famous Birmingham suburb. Mr Hughes' illustrated talk proved a fascinating nostalgia trip which will have awoken many memories among his large audience.
Ken Hughes himself is an experienced speaker on a variety of topics, mostly Birmingham related, although he began his career as a pathologist. On his retirement he began a new life as a Blue Badge guide for the Heart of England Tourist Board, progressing naturally to the public speaking circuit, which, he joked, had now taken over his life.
The next meeting on Wednesday, June 11 will feature Mr D de Haan, whose talk is entitled The Great Exhibition of 1851.
Meetings, at the Greig Hall, begin at 8pm and all are welcome.
