MALVERN Town travel to an all important Express and Star West Midlands League Premier Division game at sixth-placed Tividale tomorrow (Saturday) disappointed that last Saturday's home clash against Wolverhampton United was postponed.
Town general manager Richard Anson said: "When you are going well and looking to maintain a place in the promotion frame you need to keep playing, it is no good stacking games up until the end of the season as it is now the results count and we need to keep the pressure on the clubs around us.
"Both Neil Hunt and myself were not happy about last week's postponement. We accept the pitch was frozen in the morning, but it would surely have been playable by the afternoon, a point endorsed by the fact that only a minimal number of games were postponed right across the Midlands region. Of course it was made worse by the fact that two of our closest rivals both played and won.
"As a club, I think we need to review the need to call for pitch inspections, unless all parties within the Club believe they are absolutely necessary, because once you have committed to an inspection, most officials at this level will err on the side of caution."
For tomorrow's critical game, Town boss Neil Hunt has a full squad to pick from.
Hunt said: "This is a must win game for both sides, if we are successful, it will put us 11 points ahead of Tividale and really focus the promotion race on the top five, but a win for Tividale will throw them a lifeline.
"It is made even more important, given last Saturday's postponement and the fact that we do not have game next week."
Hunt will select from the following: Watson, Cannon, Williams, Leighton, Clayton, Walker, Chalmers, Halion, Owen, Walton, Johnson, Palmer, Roberts, Willetts, Cox and Hooper.
Town have re arranged their vital home game against Kington Town, for Tuesday, March 4 (7.45pm).
Reserves win
THE Town Reserves continued their excellent Express and Star Division One (South) form of late, with a superb 3-0 win at high flying Chaddersley Corbett on Saturday.
Dean Spiers gave Town the lead after 15 minutes, when he fired home a 30 yard free kick.
Pete Rose added a second in the 35th minute, and halfway through the second period, good work by Richard Jones set up Lee Hooper for Town's third goal.
Tomorrow (Saturday) the Res-erves have another chance to pit their wits against one the division's best sides, when title favourites Bewdley Town visit the Langland Stadium (2.45pm).
Lights go out
JUST when it looked as though the Town U18s game at home to Worcester City on Tuesday had beaten the frosty conditions, the fates continued to conspire against Town, when floodlight failure caused the game's postponement.
The Town youngsters hope to resume action on Wednesday (February 26) when they visit Hereford United in the Midland Youth Floodlit League (7.30pm).
