The Rough Guide to Greece. Ninth Edition (Rough Guides, £13.99)
Rough Guides have added welcome ballast to any traveller's essential luggage and the publishers have set themselves the unenviable task of updating these weighty tomes to make them a continuing viable proposition.
Following their time-honoured format the Rough Guide to Greece begins with a colourful and interesting digest to the culture and people of the mainland and its sprawling islands, tips on when, and when not to visit, illustrated with crisp, glossy pictures which make you want to jump on a plane. But the "business" pages are simple, uncluttered and highlighted for ease of reference.
The wealth of knowledge and approachable manner in which it is written is exactly what I am looking for in a travel guide.
I only hope there are some surprises left when I get to my destination.
