I WOULD like to reply to the letter sent in by Mr Peter Pumfrey (Your Letters, May 23) regarding a meeting held in Upton on the proposed new medical centre.
I attended that meeting and, as reported earlier, I am in full support of the building and the site.
Although Mr Pumfrey wrote a very full account of the meeting there are some points I feel should be clarified.
Firstly, Mr Pumfrey drew attention to the "hastily called public meeting". This was a very well presented meeting giving the people present a chance to see the plans and ask questions.
Concerning the calling of the meeting, I know of no reason the doctors would have to call such a meeting, only to be up front and in contact with the people of the district.
My next point is the quote by Mr Pumfrey that alternative sites do exist. When he said this at the public meeting, we were told by Dr Wilson that in the two years since the first public meeting on this subject every other proposed site had been looked at and deemed unsuitable.
I would therefore like to ask Mr Pumfrey to name the sites. I am sure I am not the only reader who would like to know.
BETTY WILLIAMS, Old Street, Upton-upon-Severn.
