CALLOW End couple Hazel and Fred Woolhead have been presented with special commendations by the Red Cross.
Mr and Mrs Woolhead joined the Red Cross Home from Hospital scheme in 1996.
Mr Woolhead had retired from the fire service some years previously and both he and his wife wanted to do something to help others.
Working as a team, they visit patients recently discharged from hospital and provide companionship, encouragement, and practical support. They have now decided to stand down, as Mr Woolhead has just celebrated his 80th birthday.
Red Cross director Annie Bibbings said: "I'm delighted that Hazel and Fred have received a Red Cross Commendation. They have been lovely volunteers, showing true compassion and care. I wish them both well in their retirement."
