A FINE all-round performance from Andrew Hall put Worcestershire in a commanding position in the Frizzell County Championship Division Two match with leaders Somerset at Bath.
Hall hit six sixes and 11 fours in his 104 as Worcestershire moved their overnight score of 422 for five through to 538 all out.
He then claimed the wickets of Jamie Cox and Mike Burns as Somerset were dismissed for 238.
There were three wickets each for Gareth Batty and Kabir Ali, with Nantie Hayward taking the other two.
No Somerset batsman could manage a half-century on a good pitch, although Nixon McLean, batting with a runner because of a knee injury, kept the crowd entertained with a hard-hitting 35 not out from number 10 in the order.
Hall started the day with 30 to his name and he was soon into the groove with a succession of sweetly-struck boundaries.
The South African reached his half-century from 58 balls and added the rest of his runs off a further 57 deliveries to complete his maiden century for Worcestershire.
Somerset made a breakthrough when Batty had his off-stump uprooted by Simon Francis. But Hall and the dogged Steve Rhodes then shared a stand of 92 for the seventh wicket.
Hall eventually fell leg before to Keith Parsons and the rest of the innings folded quickly.
Piran Holloway and Matt Wood got the Somerset reply off to a reasonable start with a stand of 40 in 10 overs. But both departed in the space of six balls.
James Bryant and Jamie Cox hinted at a revival with a third wicket stand of 73, but that proved to be the best of the innings.
Mike Burns fell to the third ball before tea when he edged to Graeme Hick at slip off Hall, which left Somerset 138 for five at the interval.
Blackwell hit five fours in a typically brisk innings of 28 before Batty had him leg before.
McLean and Keith Dutch ensured one batting point for the home side with a ninth wicket stand of 32 before Dutch was caught behind off Hayward for 17.
McLean smashed five fours and a six in his run-a-ball innings, but Somerset's hopes of a second batting point ended when Francis fell leg before to Ali.
Following on 300 runs behind, Wood and Holloway survived five overs in Somerset's second innings before the close, but Worcestershire's hopes of pressing home their advantage were delayed today when rain prevented a prompt start.
