THE weights in the Malvern United Angling Association's spring league continue to improve as the weather warms up and the latest two contests saw most competitors getting amongst the fish.
The first was won by Ron Thomas, who continued his recent good run in the competition by taking one good carp of 6-1-0 from peg 14. Ron employed pole tactics close in to tempt the fish.
Match secretary Ian Goddard also managed just one fish using similar tactics from Peg 16 to take second spot.
Rhona proved she was head of the Busby household by beating her husband to third place by only three ounces with 2-15-0.
Hot and sunny conditions greeted anglers for the latest round of the series. This brought the carp to the surface in large numbers but to the frustration of competitors they proved hard to catch on the top.
Mike Spragg improved dramatically on his only other outing in this series, when he didn't trouble the scalesman, by taking this one by a wide margin.
Mike drew favoured island peg 21 and made no mistake by taking eight carp on pole and sweetcorn tactics, the best of which was taken on the surface and weighed around 4-0-0 to give him a winning weight of 22-0-0.
Ian Goddard was once again the bridesmaid, drawn on the other side of the island he used feeder tactics close to the island, and despite taking three early carp the bites dried up and he finished with 9-14-0.
Rhona Busby once again sneaked into third spot by taking one carp from the inside weighing 4-8-0, beating Steve Davies by only three ounces again.
The league looks set for an exciting finish with several competitors still in the hunt.
