BELBROUGHTON III v COLWALL III
Fielding a blend of youth and experience Colwall asked the home side to bat first with the former showing the way with 13-year-old excellent prospect Christian Elsden running out Knight with a direct hit from cover point.
The home side looked to build a total that might stretch Colwall but with tight bowling from Kevin Baylis and 15-year-old Mike King supporting with his medium pace they slowed the home side from a big score.
Belbroughton made 167-8 off their allotted 45 overs with Kevin Baylis being the pick of the bowling conceding only 15 runs from 11 overs and taking three wickets.
In their reply Colwall never looked in trouble with Pete Thomson (24) and new boy Andrew Bishop (46) finding runs easy to come by and they put on 44 runs for the first wicket. The momentum was continued by Tom Palmer (30no) and skipper Rick Lewis (29no), who dismissed the bad balls to all parts of the boundary and seeing them home with 13 overs to spare.
Tomorrow (Saturday) Colwall entertain local rivals Barnards Green with their prospects of retaining their title looking promising with the influx of exciting young players supporting the more experienced and mature members of the team.
