STOURPORT boxer Ernie Smith picked up the 10th win of his pro career with a narrow four round points victory over Selston youngster Jonathan Woolins at Nottingham's Victoria Leisure Centre.
Woolins, a martial arts expert taking part in just his second paid contest, found himself pushed onto the back foot from the latter stages of the opening round as Smith rifled home a series of hard lefts to the head.
By the mid-way point he was shooting anxious glances in the direction of his corner as Smith chased him around the ring landing regularly to the body.
By the time the bell sounded to start the final session it was clear that Woolins didn't like being on the receiving end of the punishment that was coming his way.
A confident Smith made sure of the victory in the early part of the round when he sent his taller opponent crashing to the canvas.
The only real surprise was that Smith's margin was only 38-37.
