GRAEME Wight junior remains the king of Shelsley Walsh after a record-breaking day of hillclimbing at the historic Teme Valley venue.
The flying Scotsman shattered his own hill record twice with blistering runs in his Gould V6 car, in conditions that were far from ideal for record-breaking.
He also stretched his lead in the British Hillclimb Championship in the process.
Wight lost out in the first of the two championship run-offs to Inkberrow ace and title rival Tim Mason, who clocked 25.36 seconds in his Gould Judd to pip Wight by one-tenth of a second on a drying track.
But conditions were better for the afternoon runs, and Wight proved it in the qualifying run by clocking 24.78 seconds, shaving seven-hundredths off the hill record he set at the corresponding meeting last year.
But in the second championship run-off Wight hit speeds of over 130mph as he lowered the record by a further two-tenths of a second with a blistering run of 24.56.
Second-placed Adam Fleetwood also beat Wight's old record with an impressive 24.84 run in his Gould.
Large crowds again flocked to watch cars of all shapes and sizes tackle the hill, with classes including one-make sections for Ferrari and Lotus cars.
Local class winners included Hereford's Andrew Platt in his Westfield (modified production cars 1400-2000cc), Mark Goodyear from Shelsley Beauchamp in his Vision (hillclimb super sports cars), Worcester's Ian Fidoe in his Pilbeam (sports libre cars), Hamish Lindsay from Droitwich in his Jedi (racing cars up to 600cc), Michael Gallery, also from Droitwich in his Austin Cooper S (pre-1972 classic saloon cars) and Rob May from Bliss Gate, near Bewdley in his Lotus Super Seven (pre-1972 classic sports cars).
