POLICE have arrested a man after several women were robbed at knifepoint in the city.

The arrest came last night after a fifth woman was attacked.

She was injured as her handbag was snatched in New Street at 8.45pm. Police attending the scene arrested a man and seized a small folding knife.

The victim of the robbery, who is believed to have put up a struggle, was treated at Worcestershire Royal Hospital although it is not thought her injuries were serious.

The arrested man was helping police with their enquiries this morning.

Police have linked the crime to two incidents over the weekend when four women were robbed.

On Saturday afternoon, two young women were approached by a man in the Cornmarket. He showed them what is thought to have been a small Swiss army knife and demanded they hand over their handbags. They did and he ran off.

On Saturday evening, another two women were approached by a man, who was armed with a folding knife, in City Walls Road.

They were also told to hand over their bags and did so before the man walked off.
