GEORGE Rooney remains the hot favourite to take over for his second stint as Bromsgrove Rovers manager.
Rooney, Rovers boss for four months in 2000, is believed to be top of the list to succeed Gary Hackett and Jon Ford at the Victoria Ground, who were axed last week.
Doug Griffiths, number two to Bobby Hope in the 1980s, is also rumoured to be coming on board as a number two should Rooney be given the job.
Rovers chairman Tom Herbert said the club had received many applications for the vacant post, but added: "No decision has been made yet."
Evesham United boss Phil Mullen has also had his name thrown into the ring but former Worcester City manager Rooney, currently a scout at Aston Villa, is expected to get the job.
