MALVERN Town moved into fourth place in the Express and Star West Midlands League Premier Division thanks to their impressive win at in form Shawbury on Saturday.

SHAWBURY UNITED 0, MALVERN TOWN 3

After a slightly nervous opening 15 minutes, when Town had to be at their best defensively, they soon grabbed hold of the game when Des Cox and Dean Roberts combined to set up Luke Willetts to fire Town in front after 20 minutes.

In the 40th minute Malvern went further ahead when Steve Walker drove home a free kick from the edge of the box following a foul on Dean Roberts.

The contest was as good as over when Willetts grabbed Town's third goal on the stroke of half time, and at the same time registered his third goal in only two outings since signing from Bromyard just before Christmas.

The second period saw Town remain firmly in control, although they might have conceded on the hour mark, when Malvern goalkeeper Mervyn Watson was adjudged to have brought down a home player in the penalty area. He was relieved to see the resultant spot kick come back off the crossbar.

Dean Roberts himself fired against the bar in the second period and substitute Richard Jones might have twice added to Town's score, but ultimately Malvern were very happy with this result.
