FORMER Bromsgrove Rovers striker Sam Bowen has hung up his football boots to become a rugby player.
Bowen, top scorer in Rovers' Midland Alliance promotion last season, made his debut for Hereford side Luctonians in Midlands One, the same league as Bromsgrove, the weekend before last.
He was even due to make his debut against Bromsgrove, a match Luctonians won 61-6, but he had the flu.
But when he did get his chance, in a 36-13 victory against Spalding, Bowen scored four conversions and a penalty.
The ex-Worcester City man also scored all 18 points for Luctonians Seconds against Hinckley and converted six of 11 tries in a 74-point total against Kidderminster in the North Midlands Cup.
Bowen's career saw him move across the county and also included spells at Evesham United and Westfields.
Director of rugby at Luctonians, Simon Green-Price, said: "He has adapted well to the game, particularly for someone who has not played rugby before."
